Unmerited
“Remember his covenant forever— the commitment he made to a thousand generations.”
1 Chronicles 16:15 NLT
You know what’s dope about being a disciple of Christ AND a dad? It’s when you see the fruit of your faith play out in the lives of your children. Here in Chronicles we’re reminded that God’s covenant was a commitment to multiple generations.
Recently, my daughter made a film for a school project highlighting our family and our commitment to serving our community through the local church. It was fascinating to sit and watch the film on the big screen at her school’s theatre. Watching Millie and I’s story was a reminder that my faith and everything that’s come out of it didn’t start with me.
My faith is the product of a legacy of faith that started with my grandparents and my mom. My life is fruit of that faith. The favor my children experience is the fruit of my faith and the faith that came before me. Is it unmerited? Yes! But ain’t that the way God works?!
The undeserved gift of salvation, the abundant life found in him, and then on top of that favor in a fallen world with people who don’t even know him? Yes, Yes, yes! I know I’ve been the recipient of some unmerited favor by people who don’t know Jesus.
My kids are seeing that unfold in their lives as well. My prayer is that they would keep it going by continuing to be faithful to the one that has shown them favor because ““To the faithful you show yourself faithful…“ 2 Samuel 22:26 NLT
